Background
The SDDOT is conducting an Interchange Modification Study at the I-90, exit 48 interchange and Stagestop Road corridor in Summerset, SD.
The 2004 Corridor Preservation Study of I-90 Black Hawk - Sturgis and the 2020 SDDOT Interstate Corridor Study identified the need for improvements at exit 48. As a result, SDDOT developed various concepts in 2022. Concepts addressed sight distance, traffic flow and safety concerns. This study will evaluate the 2022 concepts. The most technically feasible enhancements will advance. Public, local and regional stakeholder input is welcome and encouraged. Engagement will inform a project recommendation that will progress through design to construction.
The proposed change(s) to the interchange will meet Federal Highway Administration policies that focus on feasibility, safety, operational and engineering acceptability.
The study will also address social, economic and environmental impacts and planning considerations.
