Here’s how our system performs today across safety, mobility, and communities with limited transportation options.

  • Existing Roadway Network

    Some areas face congestion and reliability issues. Recent projects like the South Beltway and key corridor upgrades improved capacity. The Long Range Plan enhances safety and reliability, while the Mobility Plan expands walking, biking, and transit options.

  • Crashes & High Risk Network

    Safety is a top priority. The Long Range plan creates a safe an secure transportation system while the Mobility Plan aims to eliminate fatal crashes and reduce severe crashes with design changes and investments focused on walking, cycling, rolling and using transit.

  • Sidewalk & Trail Network

    Lincoln has more than 210 miles of trails and 1,500 miles of sidewalks, but gaps still limit safe walking and biking near busy roads. Recent projects have expanded connectivity, and upcoming plans aim to close remaining gaps. The Long Range Plan and Mobility Plan together build a more connected, walkable, and active Lincoln.

  • Transit Routes & Connections

    StarTran operates 18 routes serving over 2 million riders each year. Ridership has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, with on-demand options like VanLNK improving coverage. Current plans focus on expanding reliable, connected transit access.

  • Communities with Limited Transportation Options

    Some households lack access to a car, making transit, walking, and biking essential. Older adults, people with disabilities, and lower-income residents face greater transportation challenges. The Long Range Transportation Plan expands access and opportunity for all communities, while the Mobility Plan focuses on practical, reliable travel choices where options are limited.

    Preventative maintenance saves money over time, but repair needs remain high. The Long Range Transportation Plan prioritizes cost-effective maintenance, and the Mobility Plan promotes a coordinated “dig once” approach to improve efficiency and stretch funding.
