Larimer County Faces an Immediate Funding Shortfall for Our Roads Starting in 2027

Without additional revenue by 2027 we will have less than 25% of the total funding we need for road safety, traffic flow, and intersection improvements. We will also lack matching funds that help bring outside grant money to our county.

Our community has a choice — and we’re asking for your input. We can either decide not to fund these important road safety and improvement projects or consider alternative funding to sustain them.

Increased demand and rising costs have outpaced revenue

  • Larimer County has a strong history of responsibly and efficiently managing taxpayer’s transportation funding dollars, however increased traffic and road usage has contributed to a greater need for road safety, maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Growing costs for road and bridge construction materials and labor has increased 50% in the past 5 years, yet the County only receives 75 cents per month in property tax on a $600,000 home for our transportation needs.
  • In response to this revenue shortfall, road maintenance projects have been prioritized at the expense of needed improvement projects.
    • A recent study found over $650M in unfunded road improvement project needs over the next 25 years. Visit Larimer on the Move to learn more.
    • Many of our bridges are over 50 years old and are now failing to meet current travel demands and safety requirements.
